Broadway Goes Latin by Tony Evans & His Orchestra brings the melodies of Broadway and musical theatre to the ballroom floor with 12 dance-ready tracks arranged across a variety of Latin and rhythm styles. The collection includes Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive, offering dancers and instructors a compact but versatile selection for practice, lessons, social dancing and performance preparation.
The album opens with three Cha Cha arrangements: “Too Marvelous for Words,” “Surrey with a Fringe on Top,” and “Thank Heaven for Little Girls.” It continues with “Bali Ha’i” as a Cha Cha and “There’s a Small Hotel” presented as Music for Dancing, before moving into the expressive Rumba “You Are My Lucky Star.”
The second half brings additional rhythmic variety with the Samba selections “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Tonight,” and “I Could Write a Book.” “The Parisians” provides the dramatic character of Paso Doble, while “America” and “Trumpet Blues and Cantabile” close the album with energetic Jive arrangements.
With its blend of recognizable show tunes and clearly defined ballroom rhythms, Broadway Goes Latin is an appealing choice for dancers who enjoy classic theatrical melodies presented in a practical Latin dance format.
