Jive Party Vol.5

Jive Party Vol. 5 places Kay Starr’s C’est Magnifique and B. B. King’s Boogie Woogie Woman in the same dance collection as Brenda Lee’s Bigelow 6 200. These contrasting performer connections are part of a 25-song programme, giving customers a choice of repertoire to explore when putting together a Jive session.

The opening selection is Funny Thing by Jo Ann Campbell, followed by Arthur Lee Maye, Eddie Davis and Eugene Lee. Bill Haley and the Fontaine Brothers appear in the first half, while Dorothy Collins’ My Boy Flat Top leads into Wynonie Harris’s Down Boy Down. Wynona Carr contributes Ding Dong Daddy, another specific artist-song pairing that helps distinguish this volume within the series.

Near the close, Clyde McPhatter’s Watcha Gonna Do and the Jodimars’ Rattle Shakin Daddy precede Elvis Presley’s Slicin’ Sand. That closing title connects the collection with Presley’s Blue Hawaii repertoire. Teachers and dancers who like to vary performers during practice can browse these selections alongside Johnny Rivers, Freddie Hart and Boyd Bennett. The catalogue dates the compilation to 2014; the original recording dates are separate from that compilation date.
