Jive Party Vol.1

Product Description

Jive Party Vol. 1 brings several strands of popular dance repertoire into one 25-track selection. Dinah Washington’s Ring My Phone sits alongside Ted Daigle’s Mary Lou and Wynonie Harris’s Sweet Lucy Brown, while Jackie Wilson, Amos Milburn and Carl Perkins provide further points of interest. The emphasis is on a succession of individual recordings, giving listeners different performers to explore within the collection’s Jive focus.

Vocal groups also have a substantial place in the programme. The Four Aces open with Saturday Swing Out; the Deep River Boys, Five Crowns and Larks appear in the first half. Later, the Platters contribute Don’t Let Go, and the Five Keys close with You’re for Me. This balance of solo artists and groups is useful when choosing music for a session that should offer variety rather than stay with one performer throughout.

For partner practice or teaching, customers can select by a familiar artist or discover another recording of interest in the sequence. Clyde McPhatter’s Come What May, Joe Turner’s Chicken and the Hawk and Charlie Gracie’s Tootsie are among the later choices. The collection is catalogued in 2014; that date identifies the compilation, rather than the original release year of every recording.
