World of Swing – Collegiate Shag 1 introduces the fundamentals of Double Time Shag, the classic 6-count swing dance that became popular throughout the United States during the 1930s and 1940s.
Using the characteristic Slow, Slow, Quick, Quick rhythm, Marcus Koch and Bärbl Kaufer guide dancers from beginner through intermediate level with progressive lessons covering the essential footwork, hops, kicks, turns, and partner movements that define Collegiate Shag.
The course focuses specifically on Collegiate Shag (Double Time Shag) and should not be confused with Carolina Shag or St. Louis Shag. Although it developed as its own dance style, Collegiate Shag can also be combined naturally with other swing dances.
Throughout the lessons, the instructors demonstrate how the dance is performed primarily in closed position while introducing open-position variations and separation movements suitable for medium- and fast-tempo swing music.
Marcus Koch and Bärbl Kaufer are internationally recognized swing instructors, World Champions, multiple-time World Vice Champions, US Open Champions, and organizers of the Rock That Swing Festival in Munich, Germany.
