A Perfect Year by Tony Evans & His Orchestra is a versatile 14-track dance music collection combining classic Ballroom, Latin and social dance rhythms with polished orchestral arrangements. Featuring music for Quickstep, Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Jive and Disco, the album provides plenty of variety for dancers, teachers and dance studios.
The collection opens with two vocal Quicksteps, “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes” and “Taking a Chance on Love,” before moving into the smooth Foxtrots “They Didn’t Believe Me” and “As Time Goes By.” The vocal Waltz “If You Go Away” adds a more romantic character, while “Temptation” provides the dramatic accents of Tango.
A Viennese Waltz medley combines “Bacarolle / Bacarolle / Poem / Love Theme from Scheherazade,” followed by the title track “The Perfect Year,” arranged as a vocal Rumba. The Latin section continues with “Crying” as a Rumba, “You’re the Tops” and “Cocktails for Two” as Cha Chas, and “Tequila” as a Samba.
The album finishes with “Volare” as an energetic Jive and “Night Train” as Disco, giving the collection an unusually broad musical range. This combination of Standard, Latin and social dance styles makes A Perfect Year suitable for varied practice sessions as well as social ballroom events.
