Ella Fitzgerald’s A-Tisket, A-Tasket and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s I Wanna Be Like You sit alongside Terra Samba, É O Tchan and Paulina Rubio in the opening Samba section of Vivo Latino. This combination of performers gives Volume 25 of The Best of Latin Music a repertoire that reaches beyond one musical voice or recording group.
The five-track Cha Cha section includes El Bodeguero by Emmanuel, Arriba by Joée and recordings by E-Type and Mendez with Low-Low. Rumba changes the focus again, with Carmina and Francis Goya, José Augusto, Dulce, Pimpinela and Ricky Jones represented. The programme offers several recordings within each of these dance sections, allowing a teacher or couple to vary accompaniment during repeated practice.
Four Jives follow before Emmanuel’s Respirando returns to Samba as a bonus track. That closing arrangement keeps the bonus distinct from the main dance groups. The accompanying writing and arrangement credits are another useful feature: they distinguish the recording artists from the people credited for music, words and arrangements. For customers interested in both dance accompaniment and the songs behind it, the album combines a practical grouped programme with a detailed musical record.
