Charleston is closely connected with the rhythmic vocabulary of Lindy Hop, and this two-video course explores that relationship from several different perspectives. Kevin St. Laurent & Carla Heiney begin with individual Charleston movement before progressing into partnered positions, transitions, variations, and combinations that can be incorporated into Lindy Hop dancing.
The first video establishes the foundation through Solo Charleston, Jazz movement, and partnered Face-to-Face Charleston. From there, the material develops into variations in Face-to-Face and Side-by-Side positions, giving dancers several ways to adapt the basic Charleston rhythm within a partnership.
The second video expands the vocabulary considerably. Tandem/Shadow Charleston, transitions from Side-by-Side to Shadow, Hand-to-Hand entries, Hacksaws, partnered jumps, and additional favorite variations introduce more challenging coordination and lead-and-follow situations.
Rather than presenting Charleston only as isolated choreography, the course demonstrates how different positions and patterns can connect. This makes the material especially useful for Lindy Hop dancers who want to move naturally between swing dancing and Charleston while developing a broader vocabulary for social dancing.
Teaching demonstrations, bonus material, and social dance examples provide additional context for seeing how the movements work beyond individual drills.
