Beginning Rumba Figures starts with the dance’s characteristics and considers basic movement through five position or hold descriptions. Closed position, body contact, left-to-right hand hold, open facing and double hand hold are included, allowing the basic movement to be studied in several partnership arrangements.
Fan, Alemana and Hockey Stick follow, together with forward and backward walks. These subjects provide an opening set of Rumba figures without extending the programme into later syllabus material. The demonstration of figures gives viewers a danced reference alongside the named movements, useful when returning to the foundations during practice or teaching.
