Intermediate Strength & Stretching is a conditioning program featuring Bob Powers, Julia Gorchakova, and ballet instructor Elizabeth J. Roper, designed to help ballroom dancers improve flexibility, strength, balance, and body awareness. Rather than teaching dance figures, this course focuses on the physical preparation that supports better movement, posture, and overall dancing.

Regular stretching benefits dancers at every level, from beginners to experienced competitors. The exercises presented in this program are designed to increase flexibility, improve posture and circulation, reduce the risk of injury, and develop a more relaxed, responsive body for dancing.

Bob Powers and Julia Gorchakova explain that after working with Elizabeth Roper for several years, they experienced significant improvements in the flexibility and strength of their feet, legs, hips, and abdominal muscles. The program also helped improve their coordination, balance, and overall appearance on the dance floor. According to Bob and Julia, the individual exercises Elizabeth developed after observing them in Ballroom competition became an important part of their own training, and they only wish they had started this type of conditioning earlier in their careers.

Elizabeth J. Roper is an internationally respected classical ballet instructor and choreographer. Daughter of the renowned dance teacher June Roper, known as the “Star Maker,” she teaches the Vaganova (Classical Russian), Cecchetti, French, and Neo-Classical ballet methods and has been teaching in Scottsdale, Arizona since 1994. Her ballet-based conditioning techniques provide ballroom dancers with a strong physical foundation that complements technical dance training.
