American Smooth – Open Bronze Waltz Variations is an instructional variation program featuring Michael Mead & Toni Redpath, designed for Bronze (Beginning–Intermediate) dancers who already have a firm understanding of the fundamental American Smooth Waltz steps and terminology.
Rather than reviewing basic syllabus patterns, this approximately 66-minute program presents eight Open Bronze Waltz variations that combine familiar actions in more creative and challenging ways. The material incorporates Progressive Twinkles, Shadow Position, Flip Flops, Open Fallaway actions, Runarounds, Roll Offs, checks, spirals, turns, and Developé actions.
The first four variations include Criss Cross Progressive Twinkle, Shadow Progressive Twinkles, Handshake Flip Flops, and Syncopated Open Fallaway, followed by a review that combines Variations 1–4 into a routine format.
The second half introduces Runaround in Alternate Hold, Twinkle Roll Off to Check, Shadow Right Turn, and Shadow Left Turn. Variations 5–8 are also reviewed together in routine format, helping dancers see how the individual combinations can flow within extended choreography.
These variations are suitable for adding variety to social dancing, showcases, and competition routines. Because the program assumes that Bronze fundamentals are already known, it is best suited to dancers ready to move beyond basic patterns and explore Open Bronze choreography.
