Casa Musica – Super Latin Vol. 1

Super Latin Vol. 1 is Casa Musica’s 2007 five-dance Latin compilation. Its 22 selections are grouped as five sambas, six cha cha tracks, five rumbas, one paso doble and five jives. The programme combines international popular and world-music recordings with swing and orchestral selections.

Carlinhos Brown opens the samba section with O Bode. Nuevo Cafe Latino, Mr. President, Arash feat. Rebecca and King Africa complete that group. Cha cha choices include Pata Pata by Shikisha, recordings by Jon Secada, Katla and Carlos Jean, an instrumental David Sanborn selection and Mambo Italiano by Bette Midler.

The rumba programme brings together Francisco Cespedes, José Luis Rodriguez, José Feliciano, Dean McDowall & Dana Cain and Brian Ferry. André Rieu’s Espana Cani supplies the three-highlight paso doble. The closing jives feature Powder Blues, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Atomic Fireballs and The Swing-In Sisters, giving the last group a strong swing-related selection.

Different languages and musical styles make this a useful anthology for dancers seeking alternatives within familiar Latin rhythms. The original dance and tempo notation, performer credits, languages and styles remain in the full track list. Individual running times were not supplied with this source edition, so none are added to the product specification. The digital product contains the complete source-listed music programme.
