Salsa – Stretch + Strength = Great Salsa is a stretching and strengthening program featuring Billy Fajardo, Katie Marlow, Henry Herrera & Zumel Michel, designed to help dancers improve flexibility, strength, body awareness, and physical preparation for dancing.
Although presented with Salsa dancers in mind, the exercises are not just for Salsa. The program is suitable for dancers of all styles and experience levels. It provides practical stretching and strengthening exercises that can be incorporated into a dancer’s physical preparation before dance practice and training.
The stretching section includes barre work, center work, and floor work, addressing the head, shoulders, rib cage, hips, ankles, feet, abdominal area, and other major areas involved in dance movement. Exercises include the Butterfly, Straddle Stretch, Contra Body Stretch, Roll Through, Arch Back, stretches for splits, and more.
The strengthening section includes Dips, abdominal exercises, Handstand Push-Ups, and Body Bench, followed by a Bird Demonstration.
With approximately 48 minutes of material, the program also helps dancers better understand how their bodies and muscles work during movement. Instruction is primarily in English, with some instruction in Spanish included throughout the sections.
