New ABC’s of Latin Jive – Michael Wentink

New ABC’s of Latin – Jive is an instructional video designed to teach the essential figures and techniques of International Latin Jive. Corky Ballas explains timing, lead, and movement principles, while Michael Wentink and Kristina demonstrate both the leader’s and follower’s steps to help dancers understand each figure from both roles.

The course progresses from basic syllabus figures to more advanced combinations, with separate routines for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. In addition to individual figures, the lessons include body positions, holds, chasses, posture, and leading techniques that support better movement and partner coordination.

With approximately 105 minutes of instruction, this video provides a structured reference for students, teachers, and dancers studying International Latin Jive.

The course begins with Body Positions and Holds (8 types), Jive Chasses (6 types), Posture, and Leads (3 types) before progressing through three learning levels. The Beginner section includes Basic in Place, Fallaway Rock, Fallaway Throwaway, Overturned Fallaway Throwaway, Link, Change of Places, Change of Hands Behind Back, Hip Bump, American Spin, Walks, Stop and Go, Mooch, Whip, Whip Throwaway, and two practice routines. The Intermediate section introduces Reverse Whip, Windmill, Spanish Arms, Rolling Off the Arm, Simple Spin, Miami Special, and Routine 3.
