Lesson draft from 2011 The focus of the teaching unit is the theoretical and practical introduction to standard and Latin American dances. Since these are typical tournament dances, the topic is placed under a performance and competitive sporting aspect. The individual dances with their characteristics and the competition system should be taught theoretically. In the teaching rehearsal we each chose a dance from the repertoire of standard or Latin American dances. These two example dances are intended to illustrate the difference between the two dance genres to the students. Characteristics of this are the dance posture, the expression and the rhythm while dancing. The standard dance is represented by the slow waltz. In the practical phase we will introduce the basic steps of the slow waltz and the first figure, the quarter turn. The Latin American dances are taught using the Cha-Cha-Cha. The Cha-Cha-Cha is introduced to the students using the basic step and 3 figures (wiper, promenade and extended promenade). The aim of this teaching unit should be that at the end of the lesson the students can dance the selected dances appropriately, build a sense of rhythm and develop a feeling for their dance partner.
