Ebook – Technique of Latin Dancing (Supplement)

British Dance Council (BDC) rules require competitors taking part in certain Latin
competitions and championships to restrict the figures included in their dance routines to
those chosen from the figures listed in Appendix 1 (Latin) of the BDC Rule Book.
The objective of this restriction is to encourage sound basic training. It is essential that
dancers, particularly in the formative stages of their training, are taught figures that use
techniques based on sound principles to help them develop the skills to master the
fundamental elements of each dance.
All the figures considered necessary for this purpose are already included in the Latin
Syllabus of the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IOTA). A comprehensive technical

Laird.
